Students encouraged to take fresh approach to safety

The last few weeks has seen Community Safety Project Officers out and about in local areas talking to students at Freshers events across the county.

Events began in the north on Friday 9th September 2011 at North Warwickshire and Hinckley College. Students at this event were particularly interested in how they could keep their property safe and were keen to engage with staff to discuss this.

A very well-attended Freshers’ Fair was held at Warwickshire College, Leamington Spa on Wednesday 14th September 2011. An estimated three to four hundred staff and students were present on the day and thronged to the numerous stands providing information and advice on anything from Snooker Clubs to Alcohol and Drugs.

The opportunity to recruit young blood to the Neighbourhood Watch cause was not overlooked. Seventy-two new members signed up to both CAPS (Community Alert Programme) and Neighbourhood Watch Membership

Today (Thursday 22nd September 2011) sees Community Safety Project Officers from the south of the county at Stratford-upon-Avon College.

Warwickshire County Council Community Safety Team focussed on the ‘Keep it Safe / Keep it Hidden / Keep it Locked‘ message and this was emphasised on theme items such as marker pens, gym/trolley coins, phone-screen cleaners and A4 writing pads. In addition to this staff were also giving out useful information leaflets (attach a copy here) which covered a wide range of community safety issues specific to young people.

Please download our Safety for Students leaflet which has lots of useful information and links to further advice online.
