Smoking in England to drop below 20% for first time in a century

According to leading academic Professor Robert West smoking among England’s adult population is set to drop below 20 per cent for the first time in a century.

Professor Robert West, from University College London, who co-heads the Smoking Toolkit Study, said: ‘2013 is going to be, almost without doubt, the first year for a hundred years where we’re solidly below 20 per cent smoking prevalence in England’.

In Warwickshire we have a split position with smoking rates in the South already below 20% but areas in the North much higher. Our aim is to reduce smoking even further.

In Warwickshire there is a free Stop Smoking Service for people wishing to quit. For help and advice on stopping smoking call 0800 0852917, text LIFE to 80800 or visit http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/smokefree/
