Over the Past few months our Community Safety team has been out and about, looking to engage with some of the people our normal road shows fail to meet, namely the army of shift workers that keep Rugby going.  By going in to the business at shift change over, we have been talking to people about our core messages of crime prevention, managing substance misuse issues and reducing domestic abuse. And it’s not just the shift work that can make some people harder to reach. The Eastern European workers, who make up a large number of the shift workers often, have a language barrier as well By working with the WCC translation services, we can address this barrier and we now have our Community Safety booklet ‘Be safe, be secure’ in 2 eastern European Languages. The next road show is at Tesco clothing distribution, Wednesday, 27th August. all the Road shows are being delivered in partnership with Rugby Borough Councils’ Eastern European Link worker.

The ‘be safe, be secure’ booklet is great resource. Focusing on the protection of homes first and foremost, it includes a security check list to help home owners look at their homes and make simple, cost effective changes. It also includes information on protecting car, bikes and Cycles. Rounding the booklet off is the contact details for the Counties Community Safety Project Officers who as a team wrote this booklet. Our new translations are in Slovak and Polish, and will be used for the road show event At Tesco’s. We will also have various crime reduction devices, alarms, Alcohol units ‘wheels’ and Recovery Partnership ‘brains’ to help promote our core messages.

If you work shifts in Rugby, Look out for us in near future in a work place near you. Alternatively, if you are an employer and you want invite us to your work place, just let Paul Collett ( know and  we can sort out a road show for your staff.
