How to avoid alcohol in #DryJanuary

Here are some top tips for avoiding alcohol in January (or at any other time)

1) Avoid bars

Suggest occasionally meeting up with friends in a café, the cinema or a museum.

2) Develop a taste for soft drinks 

Unearth that dust-covered juicer from the back of the cupboard, and get experimenting with some delicious soft drinks. Try some new teas. Have a tonic without the gin. My favourite alternative is lo-cal fiery ginger beer.

3) Make a friend

Share the experience of not drinking with others

4) Treat yourself

Put the money you’re saving from not drinking to good use. You would have spent the money on yourself anyway so make sure it is a treat.

5) Enjoy easy weight loss

Alcohol is packed full of calories so relish the ease of losing weight through not drinking.

6) Hide the booze

Clear all alcohol out of the house before embarking on your purge, or, at least make it out of sight, out of mind.

7) Get a hobby

It’s important to keep yourself distracted and happy – that way, you won’t fall into the trap of having a glass of wine after a stressful day. Join a book club, start that novel, or sign up to a new course.

8) Delay the inevitable

If you are tempted to have a drink simply say to yourself that if you still feel like one in five minutes you can. Often the urge to drink will pass or lessen especially if you distract yourself or drink something else. You could be just thirsty.
