Cllr Bob Stevens, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Health, said: “There’s a worrying trend in attitudes in the media, on-line and in real life that highlight a lack of awareness of what sexual consent is or its importance.

“In Warwickshire, like the rest of the UK, there’s been an increasing number of incidents where young people have become involved in sexual situations where they did not feel in control or able to say no and as a result have been the victims of sexual coercion, abuse or assault.”

Cllr Bob Hicks, the Chair of the county council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee for Children and Young People, said: “The more we can get people talking about this subject the better. Exploring the complexities of consent helps people develop healthy relationships and can protect against abuse or exploitation.”

Young people are being asked to make their own advert length film exploring issues around consent.

Competition and Respect Yourself coordinator in Warwickshire Luke Carter, said: “We’re not expecting special effects, expensive sets or celebrity cameos… the Yes/No Game is all about ideas so filming using a camera phone will be perfect.”
