New research from Liverpool John Moores University suggests that the amount of alcohol people in England drink has been underestimated by the equivalent of 12 million bottles of wine a week.
Traditional studies of drinking habits ignore holidays and special occasions. If these were taken in to account it would mean an additional 120 million units per week would be added to existing consumption figures.
