Armed officers responded to an incident on Long Street, Atherstone last night (27th August) arresting a 26-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a firearm in a public place.

The report was made to police at 9.30pm out of concern for the man’s safety and no other members of the public were put at risk. No shots were fired but distraction devices were used to allow officers to detain the man. A firearm was recovered, it is not yet known if this is genuine or a replica.

The man, who is from Atherstone was arrested at 11.35pm.
