Le #Tour De #Recovery sets off from Leamington as part of #Recovery Week

Le Tour De Recovery (TDR) is a fund raising bike ride from Leamington Spa to arrive in Durham Town on 12.09.2015 – a total of 280 miles. The peloton is compiled of staff from drug and alcohol services in Warwickshire and Coventry, volunteers and Recovery Champions. Durham is the venue for the 2015 Recovery Walk, to raise awareness of the importance of communities in the building of effective and visible responses to sustaining recovery from substance misuse and the continued need to keep harm reduction at the top of the recovery agenda.

TDR set out from the Recovery Partnership (TRP) at Court Street Leamington at 9.10pm, with a rousing send off from Addaction staff, Donna Hussain (Warwickshire Community Safety and Substance Misuse Team), Jon Murray (Addaction), ESHWorks, well-wishers and a photographer from Beyond Recovery. The riders arrived at TRP Coventry at 10am where they were greeted by TRP staff, Swanswell staff, well-wishers and families and friends.

At 10.15am the riders set off for TRP Nuneaton, arriving at 11.15am, to a lovely welcome and a selection of cakes, chocolates and energy drinks (including a smashing lemon cake, from Wendy)! The whole troupe were photographed by Nuneaton and Bedworth’s local press, before setting off for Widening Horizons in Leicester at 11.40am.
The peloton averaged around 12.5mph en route, and arrived in Leicester at 1.30pm. The Leicester crew provided a noisy welcome, with drums, bells, shakers and tambourines. The riders enjoyed an excellent spread of pasta, rolls, cakes, fruit, fruit juices and a chance to recharge mobile phones (thanks Jo Hall).
At 2.15pm the peloton set off along the A50 heading to Burton-on-Trent. The day ended in sunshine and arrival at Burton Travelodge at 4.40pm. The evening was spent at a screening of Dear Albert at One Recovery at The Manor, Burton-on-Trent.

Warwickshire County Council Community Safety and Substance Misuse Team are one of the sponsors of the event and we will be keeping you posted on the pelotons progress, trials and tribulations and we wish them a happy, safe and comfortable journey!
