#AAW15 – Tough stance in Nuneaton so more people can enjoy a night out

Warwickshire Police

Police will be upping their presence as they crack down on alcohol-related crimes in Nuneaton. More officers will be on the streets and in pubs and bars during Alcohol Awareness Week. They will be joining forces with members of Bars Against Night-time Disorder (BAND), who can apply for people to be banned from all town centre venues if they cause trouble. Door staff will be wearing body cameras throughout the week, while officers will be armed with breathalysers. A trailer promoting Warwickshire Police’s Our Bars Are Open 24/7 poster will also be in Bond Gate, in Nuneaton town centre.

Sgt Bob Wills said:

“Officers can spend a lot of time dealing with the consequences of irresponsible drinking.

“If everyone drank more responsibly it would free up more resources which could benefit the community and everyone would have a better night.

“We want people to be able to enjoy themselves and anyone responsible for drink or drug-related violence will be dealt with robustly including being barred from participating BAND premises in the future.”
