#ScottAndBailey #Sexting Storyline Bringing #Cybercrime To The Fore

ITV drama Scott & Bailey made a return to screens on Wednesday night (13th April 2016), with a focus on the crimes being committed online.

Part of this saw Janet Scott’s (played by Lesley Sharp) daughter Taisie be on the wrong side of the law. Taisie, who is 16, was arrested at the end of the episode for the possession of indecent images of a child. The child in this story is Taisie’s 15 year old boyfriend. The two had been ‘sexting’ each other images of themselves, but when stopped by police when in a car, they found the images saved on Taisie’s phone.

The explicit images had also made their way onto social media from Taisie’s phone. Even though the pair are a couple, the ages of them meant that the case had been passed on to a safeguarding team. They in turn sent the case to the Serious Sexual Offences Unit for the possession and distribution of indecent images of a child under 18. This resulted in 16 year old Taisie’s arrest.

The full episode of Scott & Bailey is available on the ITV Hub until Wednesday 11th May 2016.
